Sonam Kapoor is one of the most active Bollywood celebrities on social media. The actress never shies away from giving her opinions on any matter, be it politics or anything else. However, Sonam often finds herself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling because of the same. The actress was even trolled after her wedding when she changed her surname. However, unlike others Sonam knows the art of giving it back to the trollers.
Sonam tied the knot with Anand Ahuja in a traditional Sikh ceremony on May 8, 2018 and broke the internet with her stunning pictures.
A few days after she tied the knots with the love of her life, the actress changed her name on all her social media profiles to ‘Sonam K Ahuja’, which means “Sonam Kapoor Ahuja”. However, soon after she made the big announcement, the actress found herself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling. Seems like the fans weren’t too happy with the actress changing her name and asked her what was the need to take up her husband’s surname if she is a feminist.
But seems like Sonam is unaffected with all the trolling and bitter remarks. During an interview, the actress gave a perfect reply to trollers and termed her decision to change her surname as a ‘matter of choice’.
“ I have always said that I am a feminist. I have the choice to change my name to what I want to. Kapoor is also my father’s name. So it is a man’s name anyway. I chose to keep both. Anand has also changed his name but nobody wrote about that. I just decided to do it on social media because that’s my platform to say that I have made a choice. It is my personal choice. Nobody put a gun to my head. You should ask him (Anand). He has also changed his name and decided to add something as well.”
For the unversed, after their wedding, Sonam’s husband Anand Ahuja also changed his name on social media to ‘Anand S Ahuja’. Adorable isn’t it?
