Indian National Congress (INC) President Rahul Gandhi is one of the most talked about politicians in India. Earlier this month, Mr. Gandhi took charge of the Congress party from his mother and became one of the most powerful leaders in India.
It is true that Congress is losing power in many states of India but Mr. Rahul Gandhi doesn’t look like someone who will give up trying. From last 4 years or so, Rahul and his party has been fighting a tough political battle with Mr. Narendra Modi led Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and so far, they have been second best.
But, Congress and its supporters have launched a solid online campaign to improve the image of Rahul Gandhi among the people of India, specially the youth. In the last 6 months or so, we have seen Mr. Rahul Gandhi interact very actively and regularly with his followers on social media, specially Twitter.com, where he has more than 5 million followers.
These days, social media presence has become a very important factor for political parties, in India and across the world. The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi is one of the most followed political leaders in the world, on Twitter and every day, he sends out tweets to his followers. If we compare both the leaders, Mr. Modi is miles ahead of Rahul Gandhi as far as the followers count are concerned. PM Modi has more than 38 million followers on Twitter as compared to Mr. Gandhi’s 5 point something million followers.
Recently, a Bangalore-based woman named Dipali Sikand wrote that her grandmother, who turned 107 today, had a wish to meet Rahul Gandhi, whom she found as “handsome”, and tagged Mr. Gandhi (OfficeOfRG).
“Today my grandmother turned 107. Her one wish. To meet Rahul Gandhi! I asked her why? She whispers … He’s handsome !,” tweeted Sikand with a picture of her grandmother cutting a cake.

Rahul Gandhi replied: “Dear Dipali, Please wish your beautiful grandmother a very happy birthday and a merry Xmas. Please also give her a big hug from me. Best, Rahul.”
