Oh my goodness. I just realized that today marks twenty-five years since my very first concert. How have I been performing for a quarter of a century?! On that day I was thirteen, terrified and trembling backstage, as my heart threaded to jump out of my mouth. It was a celebration for my father’s 75th birthday and I played a solo in front of 2,500 people with none other than the one and only @officialzakirhussain on tabla. Today I tend to feel less fear, and I’ve learned to feel safe in that magical vulnerability that comes from sharing one’s heart from the stage. I’m so grateful to my parents for starting and guiding me on this journey, and to all the incredible people who have been a part of my musical story, some onstage and many who were never visible. I remember you. I love you. Thank you. Photo by @photolauralewis
