‘Bharat Ratna’ and Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 on 6th February 2022. She was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital on 8th January. Even though she showed signs of recovery, her health deteriorated a few days before her demise, and she was shifted to the ventilator again. unfortunately, the nightingale of India and queen of melody passed away.
Condolence messages were flooded on social media, with several celebrities, cricketers, prominent people, and fans, paying rich tributes to the ‘Voice of Millennium’.
Lata Mangeshkar’s love for cricket was known to all. She often used to share her opinions and views on the performance of Indian cricketers. She once even fasted for the Indian cricket team when they took on Pakistan in the World Cup semi-final in 2011.
Another story that proves her love for the sport is the time when the legendary singer wrote an open letter to MS Dhoni, expressing her displeasure.
Well, when team India was knocked out of the World Cup 2019, there were rumors that MS Dhoni might announce his retirement. Lata ji, who was a big fan of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. was left upset with the rumors. She took to her social media and wrote an open letter to legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni and requesting her to not take retirement from the game. She tweeted:
“Namaskar M S Dhoni ji.Aaj kal main sun rahi hun ke Aap retire hona chahte hain.Kripaya aap aisa mat sochiye.Desh ko aap ke khel ki zaroorat hai aur ye meri bhi request hai ki Retirement ka vichar bhi aap mann mein mat laayiye. @msdhoni”

MS Dhoni did not retire then, but he did announce his retirement a year later. In the truest sense, Lata Mangeshkar was a true icon and a Bharat Ratna. May her soul rest in peace!
