The Congress leadership, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has respectfully declined the invitation to attend the Ram Temple consecration event in Ayodhya scheduled for January 22.
In an official statement on Twitter, the party labeled the grand consecration ceremony as an “RSS/BJP event.”
The communication underscored the Congress’s perspective that both the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have transformed the temple project into a political endeavor.
Despite acknowledging the millions in the country who hold reverence for Lord Ram and honoring the 2019 Supreme Court judgment, congress leaders Kharge, Gandhi, and Chowdhury have chosen not to participate in what they perceive as a politically motivated event.

Reacting to the Congress’s decision, the Vishva Hindu Parisad (VHP) expressed that if the grand old party opts not to attend Ram Lalla’s event, it is their prerogative.
Meanwhile, preparations for the inauguration ceremony on January 22 are in full swing, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and over 6,000 attendees, including celebrities and industrialists, expected to partake in the ‘Pran Pratistha’ ceremony.
The statement further shed light on the ongoing preparations for the Ram Temple, with contributions pouring in from various parts of the country and even abroad. Among the notable contributions are a 108-foot-long incense stick, weighing 3,610 kg and almost 3.5 feet wide, crafted in Gujarat’s Vadodara over a period of six months.
A Lucknow-based vegetable vendor has uniquely designed a clock that displays the time in eight countries simultaneously. Additionally, the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan in Mathura is preparing to send 200 kilograms of laddu to Ayodhya.
In the spirit of religious offerings, the Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati has also announced its intention to send one lakh laddu for distribution to devotees on the auspicious day of the inauguration. The diverse array of gifts reflects the fervor and anticipation surrounding this significant event in Ayodhya.
