AB de Villiers expressed regret over spreading misinformation about Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma expecting their second child. In a video on his YouTube channel, the former cricketer had erroneously claimed that the celebrity couple was anticipating another addition to their family.
Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, a beloved couple in India, tied the knot on December 11, 2017. Their first child, Vamika, was born in January 2021. When Kohli opted out of the first two Tests against England citing personal reasons, speculation arose within the cricket community.
De Villiers, a close friend of Kohli’s, mentioned in a live session on his YouTube channel that Kohli was expecting his second child.
“So, yes his second child is on the way, it’s family time. You cannot judge Virat for that, and yes we miss him but he’s made the right decision. We wish him all the very best for the great blessing of being able to become a father for the second time and All the Best to Anushka as well,”
ABD said in the video.
However, De Villiers later admitted his mistake, acknowledging that he had shared false information.
He emphasized the importance of family and apologized for the error, urging everyone to respect Kohli’s privacy during this time.
“Family comes first, it’s priority, as I said on my YouTube show. I also made a terrible mistake at the same time – Sharing false information, which was not true at all. So, I just think whatever space for Virat and his family comes first. No one knows what’s happening there. All I can do is wish him well and I think the whole world that follows Virat and enjoys his cricket, must just wish him well and whatever the reason is for this break, really hope that he comes back stronger and better and healthier and fresh and ready to take on the world again,”
De Villiers told Dainik Bhaskar in an interview.

There are reports suggesting that Kohli might miss additional matches, but official announcements are pending.
As the cricket world awaits updates on Kohli’s status, De Villiers reiterated his well wishes for Kohli’s family and expressed hope for his swift return to the game.
