The T20 World Cup 2024 has kicked off with the opening match between the USA and Canada. However, the Indian cricket team will have to wait a few more days to start their campaign, as Rohit Sharma’s men are scheduled to play their first match against Ireland on June 5.
While Indian fans are eagerly anticipating the tournament, Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag revealed he has no interest in watching the T20 World Cup this time.
Despite having a stellar Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, Parag was not included in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup, not even as a reserve. His name was initially considered among the probables, but he didn’t make the final 15-man team.
In an interview, Parag openly stated that he would have been more concerned about the World Cup if he were playing. This year, his interest has waned significantly.
“It will be a biased answer (prediction on top four teams) but to be very honest I don’t even want to watch the World Cup. I’ll just see who is winning it at the end and I’ll be happy. When I will play the World Cup, I will think about top four and all of that,”
Parag said in a chat with The Bharat Army.

Known for his candid and sometimes controversial remarks, Parag has often faced trolling on social media. However, in this year’s IPL, he let his performance speak for itself, yielding impressive results. Recently, the Assam cricketer also expressed his aspirations to play for the Indian national team, asserting that the selectors will eventually have to include him.
“At some point, you’ll have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I’m going to play for India. I don’t really care when,”
Parag had told PTI in an interview.
