Shreya Dhanwanthary, a renowned actress celebrated for her remarkable performances in various films and TV series, recently delved into her early struggles in the entertainment industry. In an interview with Varun Duggi for his podcast, she recounted a challenging experience from her early days in modeling.
Reflecting on a time when she had to attend a crucial hair audition in Lower Parel, she revealed the financial constraints that prevented her from affording a meal if she opted for an Uber ride.
“And this is the third day I haven’t eaten and I’m fainting at this point. I’m like I would kill for a Rs. 5 dairy milk.”
Despite this, she chose the Uber to maintain a polished appearance, sacrificing sustenance for three days in the process. Shreya candidly expressed,
“I had to go for a hair audition to Lower Parel. And I remember if I took an Uber, I was not going to be able to afford any meal that day. I knew I couldn’t go in the local because even though it would be efficient and cheap, but I had to look nice. So I would take the Uber and then I would go and then I would not eat. You realise very quickly that you’re like a hanger.”
This revelation shed light on the harsh realities faced by aspiring talents in showbiz.
Furthermore, Shreya Dhanwanthary shared a poignant moment when, amidst her struggle, a fellow auditionee offered her a humble Rs. 5 Dairy Milk, marking her first meal in days.
This gesture highlighted the camaraderie and empathy that can exist even in competitive environments.
She further explained that,
“And I walk into the audition and they’re like, Oh shit, you look so good. And then when I was going out, there was the most beautiful creature that I have ever seen in my life walks in through the doors and she looks perfect, just flawless and I’m like I am competing with this person to get that job. There’s no way, and she was complaining about something that was happening there, again, she’s glowing so I’m like Oh my God, I’m seeing a Goddess. And she’s like ‘Oh, this is so tacky. I mean I found this outside but this, I am never going to touch it. Do you want it?’ And she gave me a Rs. 5 dairy milk. Can you believe that. And I took it and finally this was like the first meal I had in three days, the Rs. 5 dairy milk. And then I quit modelling.”
However, her revelation sparked a range of reactions among netizens. While many praised her for sharing her journey and found it inspiring, others questioned the authenticity of her story, speculating whether she embellished her hardships after achieving fame. Such skepticism underscores the scrutiny celebrities often face regarding the narratives they present about their past struggles.
