Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan faced severe criticism when they named their first son, Taimur, with many condemning the choice due to its association with a historical Mughal emperor. Recently, Kareena claimed that Taimur was named after Saif’s childhood friend, which sparked controversy as netizens unearthed an old video contradicting her statement.
In a video shared on Reddit, Kareena is seen revealing that Saif, a history enthusiast, named their son Taimur after the Mongol ruler.
She said:
“It’s got to be Saif obliviously. He loves history, and very articulate about the warriors he likes. He reads about them and I think he was a fan of the Mongol, Taimur. Yeah he was a fan, and as a child he read a lot about him.“
Kareena’s Emotional Interview Raises Questions
Contradicting her previous statement, Kareena mentioned in another interview that Taimur was named after Saif’s childhood friend. She explained:
“When we came up with the name… Saif actually said… He grew up with a neighbour friend, and he always really liked his name and his name was Taimur, so he said, ‘You know, if I have a son, he was my first friend. I’d like to name him Taimur’, and that’s exactly how Taimur was named, because he was Saif’s first friend when he was living in town here.”

The contradictory statements led to widespread criticism. One user commented, “Can’t she even remember why she named her son that?” Another added, “All Saif would have done was googled Mughal Kings who ruled India and must have liked Taimur’s name.”
Previously, Kareena revealed to The Indian Express how she was distressed by the backlash over her son’s name, stating that she was in tears in the hospital due to the harsh criticism.
