Kamal Haasan, in a recent video, expressed his sentiments regarding Shah Rukh Khan’s aspiration to purchase an aircraft, affirming, “I’m happy for him.” He also delved into his own aspirations that remain unfulfilled.
Kamal Haasan, during a conversation with his daughter Shruti Haasan, reflected on his unfulfilled desires. He reminisced about Shah Rukh Khan’s desire to acquire a plane, expressing contentment that the ‘Jawan’ actor still maintains a wishlist.
Kamal and Shruti collaborated on a music video titled ‘Inimel’, where they engaged in a candid discussion on various topics.
During the conversation, Shruti queried about his lingering desires. Kamal Haasan shared his perspective, indicating a reluctance to compile a list of desires, emphasizing his father’s philosophy imparted to him at their residence in Eldams Road.
“There are a lot of those, a lot. My intention is not to list all of them. Listing them makes you go ‘I want this, that, and this.’ That’s when I remind myself, at Eldams Road (where his old family home is situated), my father gave me a small room that could perhaps fit two pianos. It was on the top floor… so, the heat! The restroom was three floors down. My father’s attitude was, ‘you know a lot so stay here. When you think you can’t go on like this, tell me and I will buy you a cow that you can rear,”
said the Vikram actor.
He recounted moments of pondering in his humble abode, where aspirations for modest possessions aided his tranquility, from contemplating a scooter to envisioning car ownership, eventually musing over the prospect of owning an aircraft.
Reflecting on Shah Rukh Khan’s interview where he expressed his ambition to procure an aircraft, Kamal expressed joy at witnessing Shah Rukh Khan’s continued aspirations. Personally, Kamal pondered the necessity of maintaining a wishlist, questioning the ultimate satisfaction it brings. He contemplated the practicality of owning extravagant possessions such as a lavish estate in Kodaikanal, juxtaposed with the transient nature of his stay.
“I don’t even remember the things on that list. But those wants helped me sleep. I wanted to buy a scooter, then I wanted to buy a car. Now, when I have the wealth to buy all of those things, ‘I wonder what do I want? A plane?’ I recently watched an interview of Shar Rukh (Khan). He said he wants to buy a plane. I felt happy seeing him because he still has a list. Personally, I feel, I shouldn’t have any list. I am not trying to become ascetic. Where is the end to it? Okay, if I want a plane, I wonder, how much will I use it? If I buy a big house like this in Kodaikanal, how much time will I spend there? Maximum one month. Then I will run back here. Why should I then buy a bungalow there?”
Kamal said.
Addressing Shruti Haasan’s inquiry regarding his films being his desires, Kamal casually shared updates on his upcoming project, ‘Thug Life’, helmed by Mani Ratnam.
Furthermore, Kamal divulged his desire to perpetually engage in activities he loves, drawing inspiration from a book titled ‘Ikigai’. He recounted the recent experience of composing a song with A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam for ‘Thug Life’, relishing the joy derived from the creative process rather than the material outcome.
Kamal Haasan’s forthcoming projects include director Shankar’s ‘Indian 2’ and ‘Indian 3’, along with the resumed shooting of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Thug Life’, anticipated for release later this year or early next year.
