In a thrilling encounter, India secured a six-run victory over Pakistan in their second Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9. Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance, taking three wickets for just 14 runs in four overs, was instrumental in defending India’s total of 119 runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. For his outstanding effort, the 30-year-old pacer was named Player of the Match for the second consecutive time in the tournament.
Following the match, Bumrah was interviewed by his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, a presenter for the ICC during the T20 World Cup 2024. During their conversation, Bumrah shared insights about India’s resilient performance and his satisfaction with his own contribution. He emphasized the importance of problem-solving on the field rather than being overly concerned about the opposition.
“For me, the greatest happiness is that whenever there is a problem or a puzzle, how do I solve it? What are my options? Rather than thinking too much in the end, or this is the opposition, I try to focus on how I can help the team and how I can solve this problem. So very happy that I could do it today, but there was nothing like that I was thinking of the opposition.”
Reflecting on India’s experience playing in New York, Bumrah noted the advantages of the large ground and the favorable conditions for bowlers. He expressed his contentment and eagerness to maintain the momentum in the upcoming matches.
“It felt really good. First of all, the ground is pretty big, so that’s one tick mark, and there’s some help, so I would never ever complain as a bowler because… always the games where there is a challenge between bat and ball are always a good sight to see and spectacle as well. So very happy and trying to take the momentum forward.”
The interview concluded with Sanjana congratulating Bumrah on India’s win and expressing her anticipation of seeing him soon, to which Bumrah charmingly replied, “Thank you; I will see you in 30 minutes.” This endearing exchange, shared on the ICC’s official Instagram handle, quickly went viral.
