Just in a few minutes his tweet went viral, and netizens corrected the filmmaker and told him that the film had not been shortlisted but that the Academy had released a list of movies from different countries that were “eligible” for consideration in the international feature film category.
A journalist replied to Agnihotri’s tweet and wrote,
“Kashmir Files has not been “shortlisted” for the Oscars. Oscars released a list of 301 films that are “eligible”. Kashmir Files is one of them along with 10 Indian films. Only Last Film Show, All That Breathes, Elephant Whisperers, Natu Natu are yet “shortlisted” from India.”
He added,
“Three hundred one feature films are eligible for the 2022 Academy Awards®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today. The word is eligible, not shortlisted. Shortlists were announced on 21 December 2022 for 10 categories.”

Many users were seen taking a dig at the filmmaker for his claims and mistake. Have a look at some of these tweets
This is a misleading and false tweet. there is a difference between *Shortlisted and *eligibility. #Fact_Check
