Comedian Vir Das recently took a jab at Indian celebrities and influencers for their reluctance to share photos from the Maldives amidst the ongoing Lakshadweep controversy.
Bollywood stars such as Akshay Kumar, Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Urvashi Rautela, and Amitabh Bachchan had previously expressed support after the maldives minister mocked India and PM Modi for visiting Lakshadweep.
Vir Das, however, took to Twitter to humorously criticize those Indian celebrities and influencers who, despite having a great time in the Maldives, were hesitant to share their vacation photos.
In his first tweet, Das stated,
“Firstly, happy Lakshadweep is getting some love! Secondly, Somewhere in the Maldives, right now, is an Indian celebrity/influencer, who didn’t eat carbs for two weeks, took the best vacation photos ever, and is TERRIFIED to post them.”

Continuing the jest, in a second tweet, he remarked,
“Next actor to post a honeymoon photo from Madh Island is getting a National Award. Pakka.”

He added another tweet, saying,
“Remember thinking Epstein would be the most discussed island this week?”

Social media users responded to Das’s tweets, with one suggesting that some celebrities who favored the Maldives may have received significant payments from the government, posting pictures of Lakshadweep from a Google search.
Another user expressed shock over the emergence of hatred among Maldivian leaders, considering the substantial support India provided during the COVID-19 pandemic when the Maldives heavily depended on tourism.
The ongoing controversy arose when a Maldivian political leader made controversial remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep.
Akshay Kumar and other prominent celebrities had previously responded to hateful comments from prominent figures in the Maldives, expressing surprise at such negativity towards a country that contributes significantly to their tourism industry and also made #ExploreIndianIsland trend on Twitter now known as ‘X’.
