Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah holds a special place as a beloved TV comedy show. However, a recent surge in social media calls for its boycott has sparked curiosity. Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been a staple sitcom on Hindi television, amassing a dedicated fan base during its successful decade-long run. However, discontent among fans arose when the show’s creators failed to deliver on their promise to bring back Disha Vakani, known as Dayaben.
For those out of the loop, Disha Vakani and Monika Bhadoriya departed from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah earlier this year, triggering speculations about payment disputes.
During an interview with Hindustantimes, Bhadoriya revealed her traumatic experience after her mother’s passing, highlighting the insensitivity of the show’s team. She recounted, ”
I was in a state of trauma, but they called me seven days after my mother’s death, insisting I return to the set. They said, ‘We’re paying you, so you must be present, whether your mother is hospitalized or not.’ I felt compelled to comply, but it was emotionally taxing. Moreover, they would mistreat and harass me. They’d even summon me an hour before call time. It was chaos on their sets. He claims he’s ‘God’.”
Fast forward to December, despite numerous assurances, the makers failed to reintroduce Dayaben, fueling fan outrage. The hashtag #BoycottTMKOC gained momentum on social media platforms, with disgruntled viewers expressing disappointment. One user expressed,
“This Duo will never be back on Screen,”
while another directly addressed Asit Modi, saying,
“@AsitKumarrModi, You’ve shattered your viewers’ hearts. There’s no incentive left to watch the new episodes. We understand your intentions. Shame on you!”
Amidst this, Twitter has been buzzing with reactions:
Disha Vakani joined Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in 2008 and bid adieu to the sitcom in 2023.
