Food ordering and delivering services has become insanely popular in India in recent years. Zomato and Swiggy have become prominent parts of the Indian food business, with the development of digital technology and consumers’ growing need for convenience being the crucial reasons.
The massive use of smartphones and the Internet are the main factors for India’s rapid expansion of food delivery services. People across the country can now use online meal delivery services thanks to the quick development of digital infrastructure and low-cost smartphones. However, as their reach increases, problems with services also rise.
Despite the many advantages of food delivery services, there are a number of difficulties they must overcome. One of the biggest challenges is the issue of food safety and hygiene. With the rapid increase in a number of food delivery orders, there is a greater risk of food contamination and order mix-ups.
Swiggy faced criticism after a customer claimed that she got non-veg in the veg dish
Taking to Twitter, a customer named Natasha Bhardwaj, who claimed to be a pure vegetarian, alleged that she got a piece of non-veg in a vegetarian Biriyani. On Twitter, she wrote,
If you’re a strict vegetarian (like me) think twice before ordering from @Swiggy ! I ordered biriyani rice with aloo which is clearly MARKED AS VEGETARIAN on the platform and I found a piece of meat (could be chicken, mutton or anything!) in the rice. Such grave errors are something that are unacceptable specially when it comes to MY BELIEFS.
Not only this, but she also shares her ordeal about how Swiggy’s customer care service reacted to it initially. She added,
And on top of that swiggy executives are least bothered – they said that the restaurant clearly said that the items are non-veg and they don’t know why it’s marked as veg on Swiggy, and Swiggy wanted us to talk to the restaurant directly to solve the issue! They just said you can share your feedback with us which we will pass on to the restaurant – as if that would cure the mental trauma I had to face on receiving non vegetarian food. I’ve attached a recording of the conversation with Swiggy executive. Furious ! #BoycottSwiggy

Just in a few minutes her tweet went viral and as Natasha has a blue tick Twitter account, her tweet attracted a lot of reactions, not only from common people but also from some Twitter celebs.
Swiggy responds to Natasha’s complaint
Upon seeing the matter going off out of hand, Swiggy realizes its mistake and said,
Hi Natasha, such mix-ups are not expected from our restaurant partners, and we’d like to take a closer look. Can you help us with your order ID? ^Kaarthik

Twitter reacted to the matter and slammed Swiggy
Complaint to Swiggy then Lodge a complaint with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) then File a consumer complaint after that you can file a civil suit against @Swiggy for breach of contract & claim compensation for the mental harassment for wrong delivery.

@AdvAshutoshBJP, any legal action an individual can take if such a thing happens? Because if this happened to me, I would be pretty pissed off. No amount of a refund would calm me down, especially given the reply from chat support.

Natasha, swigy never accepts any mistakes at all, either it is delivery agent or restaurant or even customer when they ask for refund! best to avoid swigy and uninstall for peace of mind…they believe refund coupon for 20 or 30 rs is solution for all the mess they cause

Since prevention is better than cure, I always order from only veg restaurants. At least it diminishes the chances of getting bones and all in my food.
