Suryakumar Yadav will lead the young Indian squad for the 5-match T20I series against Australia, starting on Thursday.
After the heartbreak of the World Cup final, Team India is gearing up to face Australia in a 5-match T20I series commencing on Thursday, November 23. With regular skipper Hardik Pandya and other senior players unavailable, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain for the series.
However, Suryakumar Yadav’s inaugural press conference as Team India skipper saw a tepid response, with only two journalists present for the media interaction leading up to the IND vs AUS 1st T20I in Visakhapatnam.
Renowned cricket journalist Vimal Kumar expressed astonishment at the low turnout, contrasting it with the considerable media presence during the World Cup. He shared this surprising detail on social media, noting,
“From 200 odd media people (during World Cup) to just two in the press conference in India is staggering! SKY wouldn’t have imagined this in his first PC as captain. Is this a record with the fewest attendance in a press conference in India? I would imagine so.”
Suryakumar Yadav, during the press conference, addressed the emotions following the World Cup final defeat on November 19. He acknowledged the disappointment but also highlighted the positive aspects of India’s performance throughout the tournament.

Reflecting on the loss, Suryakumar said,
“It is a little disappointing. In the end, when you look back at the journey, it was a great campaign. Every member, not only the players, but all of India was also very proud of the way we displayed our talent on the ground. That was the positive, the brand of cricket that we played throughout the tournament. And we are proud of that.”
He acknowledged the difficulty of moving on from the defeat, emphasizing that it would take time.
“It can’t be that you get up the next morning and forget everything that happened. It was a long tournament. We would have loved to win. But you have to look at the light at the end of the tunnel. You have to forget and move on,”
Suryakumar explained.
The Team India squad for the upcoming IND vs AUS T20Is includes Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar.
