On Tuesday afternoon in Jaipur, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the president of the right-wing group Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in the Shyam Nagar area, as reported by the police.
The incident took place when four individuals entered a house where Gogamedi was present, opening fire and injuring not only him but also a security personnel and another individual.
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, formerly associated with Lokendra Singh Kalvi’s Shri Rajput Karni Sena, gained prominence for leading protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat.’ Eventually, due to disputes within the group, he formed his own Karni Sena.
The CCTV footage shared by PTI reveals two men firing multiple shots at Gogamedi and another person at the door, providing a disturbing visual account of the tragic event.
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi’s association with the Karni Sena and his role in the ‘Padmaavat’ protests brought him into the limelight. Videos featuring him discussing the Deepika Padukone-starrer movie and the Anandpal encounter case went viral during the Rajasthan protests.
Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph informed PTI that Gogamedi was swiftly taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Former Rajput Karni Sena state president Ajit Singh Mamdoli revealed that the assailants, claiming they wanted to meet Gogamedi, gained entry to his house. After tea, they opened fire, resulting in Gogamedi’s tragic demise.
In a shocking twist, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang member Rohit Godara Kapurisar claimed responsibility for Gogamedi’s murder through a Facebook post. However, the authenticity of this claim could not be independently verified by HT.
Expressing shock over the incident, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat assured swift action, emphasizing the BJP government’s commitment to making the state crime-free. The BJP recently emerged victorious in the assembly election, defeating the ruling Congress.
