Stand-up comedian Vidushi Swaroop garnered significant criticism for her comments regarding prostitution during a viral video of one of her live shows.
In the video snippet, Vidushi Swaroop described prostitution as a “trendy career,” elaborating on its distinctive aspects compared to other profession. These remarks swiftly stirred widespread outrage online, with the majority of people deeming them “insensitive.”

“Respect women always. This is no way to present women. Shameful act,”
a person wrote on X.
Another individual expressed a similar viewpoint saying
“”Unfortunately, some self-proclaimed stand-up comedians make comments that some find amusing, whether it’s related to religion or other sensitive topics. They often think they’re being funny, and the audience laughs along, considering it cool.”
Poet Kumar Vishwas expressed his disapproval on the social media platform, X, and wrote,
“In fact, this is not only absurd but also inhuman and cruel. This insensitive joke is merely a glimpse of today’s so-called stand-up presentations that consistently mock cultural and moral values. It is fortunate that no male presenter engaged in this tasteless act; otherwise, there would have been considerable repercussions. Shame on those who found it amusing.”
Nonetheless, there were individuals who came to Vidushi Swaroop’s defense. One user stood up for her, stating, “The essence of comedy is to hold a mirror to society. You startled us and made us laugh simultaneously. Great job.”
Another comment read,
“Dealing with societal concerns through comedy, only a few can master it, and you excelled at it.”
In response to the controversy, the stand-up comedian took to Instagram to address the situation.
She posted Kumar Vishwas’s comment and wrote,
“This video is taken from a full YouTube video, so it does not reflect the actual perspective of the clip. Therefore, I have a humble request to all of you: before making your decision, please evaluate the entire video once.”
