Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) is famously linked with Amitabh Bachchan. The megastar has been entertaining the fans for more than two decades but in the third season back in 2007, Shah Rukh Khan hosted it and won hearts with his charm and humor. His stint on KBC marked his comeback to television.
Recently, SRK participated in a talk called ‘The Making of a Star: A Conversation with Shah Rukh Khan’ at the World Government Summit in Dubai. During the discussion, the host, Richard Quest, asked SRK how he felt when contestants on the show came close to winning one million.
SRK Revealed How KBC’s Producers Shouted At Him As He Wanted To Help Contestants
SRK shared an interesting story, saying he genuinely wished for the contestants to win. He also wanted to assist them, but the show’s producers would often tell him not to intervene. Sharing how the last questions of the show used to be tough, SRK said:
“I genuinely hoped that they won. There were so many people coming from different parts of the country. There were times when I wanted to help them, but you know, you can’t! The producers would keep shouting in your ears, saying, ‘You can’t say this!’ ‘You have already said enough! The last four or two questions were really tough.”
During the conversation, he also revealed that he declined Danny Boyle’s offer for “Slumdog Millionaire” due to his affection and commitment to KBC. The star-actor said:
“He was shown cheating on the show, and I thought it was disrespectful to the producers of KBC because I was hosting it. I didn’t take up the role. Eventually, Anil Kapoor played it, and he did a brilliant job.”
On an episode of Koffee With Karan, SRK mentioned that he would enjoy hosting KBC until he turned 60, and he couldn’t see anyone else doing it after Big B. He admitted that even though he wanted to assist contestants in winning, there were times when he didn’t know the answers himself. He said:
“Suddenly, these difficult questions are thrown at you, and you’re like, ‘O my God, this person is not going to get the correct answer,’ and I felt really bad. I wished I had some hint. I didn’t want to mislead them because most of the time I didn’t know the answer.”
