Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Smriti Mandhana was overwhelmed with emotion after her team secured the Women’s Premier League 2024 title, defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. This victory marks RCB’s first T20 title in both the WPL and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mandhana, who scored 31 runs in the final, was seen with tears in her eyes after her team hit the winning boundary. The video of RCB’s skipper is now going viral on social media. Here is the video.
Spinners Shreyanka Patil, Sophie Molineux, and Asha Sobhana collectively took nine wickets, while Ellyse Perry exhibited composure with an unbeaten 35, leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 title match.
The enduring slogan “Ee Sala Cup Namde,” meaning “this year the cup is ours,” finally turned from a distant dream into reality as RCB clinched their maiden WPL title.
During the post-match presentation, Smriti Mandhana expressed her happiness and thanked the team management for giving her all the freedom when forming the team. Mandhana also had a message for all the RCB fans, where she replaced the slogan of ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’ to ‘Ee Sala Cup Namdu’. She said:
“Have a message for the fans – the most loyal fanbase. One statement that always comes up is Ee Sala Cup Namde. Now it’s Ee Sala Cup Namdu. Kannada is not my first language but it was important to say it for the fans,”
Smriti Mandhana’s use of “Namdu” after winning the trophy was spot on, as it signifies “something is ours” in the context of RCB fans’ slogan “Ee Sala Cup Namde,” where “Namde” means “something will be ours.”
