Avinash Ramani and Agragesh Ramani, creators of the medical firm Trunome, impressed the Sharks with their unassuming pitch on the most recent episode of Shark Tank India Season 2.
The Ramani brothers have founded a cutting-edge company with patented technologies for tracking chronic illnesses like cancer. The initial price tag of 1.5 crores for 1% stock was set by the pitchmen. While most of the Sharks were enthusiastic, Namita Thapar was not.
Trunome is a business-to-business and business-to-consumer biotechnology company headquartered in Chennai and sponsored by Acrannolife Genomics Pvt Ltd. In 2017, it opened for business. Trunome managed to get Rs 2 crores in loan and equity funding at the height of the 2020 Covid-19.
The initiative aims to build domestic medical technology that can be used to make pharmacogenomics and genomic diagnostics more accessible and less expensive. A person’s genetic predisposition may be determined, allowing for more educated medical choices to be made by the general public.
The CEO of Trunome has said that negotiations are underway with US companies and that contracts have been inked in India. Several partnerships exist among healthcare facilities in India. Five years from now, the company’s founders expect to rake in four thousand crore rupees.
To Namita Thapar, it was a stretch of the imagination. In other words, let me give you a dose of reality, Namita added. The maverick investor criticized the Ramani brothers, stating she would have invested in their company if they had produced more money.
“Sirf Hawa Mein Baatein…”, Namita was critical of the founders’ grandiose assertions. Before walking away from the agreement, she wished them well.
