Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, known for his exceptional skills on the field, has faced personal challenges, particularly in his relationship with his ex-wife, Ayesha Mukerji. The couple, who tied the knot in 2012 and welcomed their son Zoravar in 2014, went through a rough patch in 2020, leading to their divorce in September 2021.
On December 26, 2023, Shikhar Dhawan marked his son Zoravar’s birthday with a heartfelt post on Instagram.
The post included a screenshot from a video call, capturing a precious moment between father and son. In the image, Zoravar sported a grey hoodie, while Shikhar wore a T-shirt, and the cricketer’s smile reflected the joy of the interaction. However, Dhawan later deleted the post for reasons not disclosed.
Accompanying the picture was a poignant note in which Shikhar expressed his longing to connect with Zoravar, revealing that he hadn’t met his son for a year and had been blocked from all communication channels for almost three months. Despite this, he conveyed his love and pride for Zoravar, expressing hope for a reunion in the future. Shikhar emphasized that, through telepathy, he maintains a connection with his son, writing messages daily to inquire about Zoravar’s well-being and share updates about his own life.
“It’s been a year since I saw you in person, and now, for almost three months, I’ve been blocked from everywhere so posting the same picture to wish you, my boy, a very Happy Birthday. Even if I can’t connect with you directly, I connect with you through Telepathy. I am so proud of you, and I know you’re doing great and growing up nicely. Papa always misses you and loves you. He’s always positive, waiting with a smile for the time when we will meet again by the Grace of God. Be naughty but not destructive, be a giver, be humble, compassionate, patient, and strong. Despite not seeing you, I write you messages almost every day, asking about your well-being and daily life, sharing what I’m doing and what’s new in my life. Love you loads Zora, Papa.”
The legal aspect of Shikhar Dhawan’s personal life also made headlines when he was granted a divorce from Ayesha Mukerji on October 4, 2023, by the Family Court in Delhi.
The court acknowledged the mental agony and cruelty Shikhar faced in the marriage, allowing him the opportunity to spend time with his son.
In a previous interview with India Today, Shikhar Dhawan reflected on his failed marriage, acknowledging that he failed to recognize certain warning signs. He expressed a commitment to making wiser choices in any future relationships, having learned from his experiences.
“I failed because the final decision is the person’s own. I don’t point fingers at others. I failed because I was not aware of that field. The things I talk about cricket today, I wouldn’t have been aware of the same 20 years back. It comes with experience. Right now my divorce case is going on. Tomorrow, if I want to marry again, I will be much more wiser in that field. I’ll know what kind of girl I need; someone whom I can spend my life with.”
The cricketer’s public disclosure of his challenges in maintaining a relationship with his son has sparked discussions about personal struggles amidst professional success. Shikhar Dhawan continues to navigate these complexities with resilience and a focus on personal growth.
