In the recent limelight for her remarkable portrayal in the web series, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, Sharmin Segal has shared insights into her journey to landing the role of ‘Alamzeb’. Despite being linked to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, which stirred debates on nepotism, Sharmin’s audition process was anything but a cakewalk.
Kapil Sharma asked Sharmin if she had to audition for Heeramandi
During a segment on The Great Indian Kapil Show featuring the leading ladies of ‘Heeramandi’, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Sharmin Segal, Kapil Sharma’s inquiry about her audition experience shed light on her dedication.
To this Sharmin shocked everyone when she said that she not only had to audition for the role of ‘Alamzeb’ but for an entire year, SLB tested her.
Contrary to assumptions, Sharmin disclosed that she underwent a rigorous audition phase for a staggering year, all under the scrutinizing eye of SLB.
Sharmin also revealed that she desperately wanted to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the ‘filmmaker’, and not her ‘mamu’. So, she gave multiple and up to 16 auditions to be selected for the series. She further revealed that SLB took her sixteen auditions and groomed her for an entire year.
Interestingly, the exclusivity of their bond was emphasized during a special screening of ‘Heeramandi’ in Los Angeles, attended solely by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Sharmin Segal. Photos surfaced from the event, revealing the duo alongside Lily Singh, raising questions about the absence of the rest of the cast.
For the occasion, Sharmin donned a Sabyasachi lehenga, exuding elegance in a vibrant red choli paired with intricately embroidered attire, accentuated by a sheer dupatta. Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali opted for a black kurta pyjama ensemble, with a matching dupatta.
Sharmin’s revelations offer a glimpse into the meticulous selection process behind her portrayal in ‘Heeramandi’, inviting discussion on her journey and the dynamics of nepotism in the industry.
