In a surprising turn of events, MS Dhoni, the long-standing captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has decided to step down from his leadership role just before the commencement of IPL 2024. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was anticipated to succeed him as captain, has been appointed to lead the Yellow Army, according to an announcement on the IPL website.
Dhoni, who has been at the helm of CSK since the inception of the tournament, opted to relinquish his captaincy prior to IPL 2022. Ravindra Jadeja temporarily assumed leadership responsibilities during Dhoni’s absence. However, following CSK’s disappointing performances under Jadeja’s captaincy, the CSK management urged Dhoni to reconsider his decision.
