As we all know, earlier this year Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2023 and revived Bollywood when it needed it the most.
However, initially, things weren’t looking good for the Shah Rukh Khan- Deepika Padukone movie as it was embroiled in heated controversy and became a victim of the boycott culture.
Protest against the release of the film began after Pathaan’s first song, Besharam Rang, was released. The song featured Deepika wearing an orange swimsuit, Bikini to be more precise which drew criticism from several political parties.
Having a word with News18, director Siddharth Anand said that they didn’t give it much thought while choosing the outfit for Deepika and it was a random choice. He said,
“The color was looking nice. It was sunny, the grass was greener and the water was blue and the orange color was looking good. We thought when the audience would watch it they would understand that our intent was not wrong.”
He also spoke about how the audience helped them prove the boycott culture wrong, he said,
“They (the audience) proved the whole boycott movement wrong. And when you are calling for a boycott of a star or a movie, you are not seeing how many people’s livelihood is dependent on that particular movie especially if it works. At least three hundred people work on a film every day. And when the shoot gets over so many VFX artists work on the post-production. It’s very easy to say boycott, that too, without reason.”
