Food safety is paramount for maintaining our health and well-being. While the Indian Railways typically provides meals to its passengers, there have been rare instances of contamination. One such incident occurred recently when a passenger shared his experience of finding fungus in the yogurt served aboard the Vande Bharat Express.
The meal service on the Vande Bharat Express has once again come under scrutiny after a passenger, Harshad Topkar, traveling from Dehradun to Anand Vihar in the executive class, discovered a greenish layer, likely fungus, contaminating the yogurt served as part of his meal.
Topkar took to social media, specifically Twitter, to share his dissatisfaction, tagging relevant railway authorities including the Ministry of Railways and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He expressed his disappointment with the service and the unexpected presence of fungus in the yogurt.
He took to Twitter now known as ‘X’ and wrote:
Traveling to Vande Bharat from Dehradun to Anand vihar in the executive class today. Found a AnandVihara AnandVihargreenish layer most probably fungus in the amul yogurt served. This is not expected from the Vande Bharat service
Rail Seva and Northern Railway promptly responded to Topkar’s post, apologizing for the unpleasant experience and assuring him that the issue was immediately addressed by replacing the contaminated yogurt.

They confirmed that the yogurt pack was not expired but pledged to investigate the matter further with the manufacturer to prevent such incidents in the future.
Sir, our sincere apology for the inconvenience caused. The matter was immediately attended by onboard supervisor and replaced the curd immediately. Further, curd pack was within the expiry date. The issue is being raised with the manufacturer.

This incident follows a similar case in February when another passenger found a dead cockroach in a meal served on the Vande Bharat Express. These occurrences emphasize the importance of stringent food safety measures on the train to ensure the well-being and satisfaction of passengers throughout their journey.
