Men in blue clinched a 317 runs victory over Sri Lanka in the final ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. From Virat Kohli’s 74th century to Mohammad Siraj’s brilliant deliveries, the series gave the Indian cricket fans n number of reasons to celebrate. However, one incident has become the talk of the town because of which a debate on social media has been initiated. We are talking about the Mohammad Shami and Dasun Shanaka run-out that happened in the final over of the first ODI. Mohammed Shami ran in to bowl the final over of the first ODI, Dasun Shanaka was on 98, and Shami mankaded him as the Sri Lankan captain was out of the crease even before the ball was delivered.
Rohit Sharma withdrew the appeal as the batsman was just two runs away from his 100 and the Indian skipper didn’t want to get him out this way.
Recently, Ravichandran Ashwin shared a video on his official YouTube channel where he spoke about the incident and said that the Mankad runout is a “legitimate” form of getting a batsman out. A Twitter user shared screenshots from the video and said
“Ashwin. Echoing the sentiments of so many of us”.

In the video, R Ashwin said “Of course Shami’s runout. When Dasun Shanaka was batting on 98 runs and the Indian pacer ran him out at the non-striker’s end, Rohit Sharma withdrew the appeal”.
He further said,
“I am going to keep repeating only one thing guys that the situation of the game is immaterial and mankad runout is a legitimate form of dismissing a batsman”.
