Recently, Morocco destroyed Cristiano Ronaldo’s and his fan’s hopes of lifting the FIFA World Cup championship trophy by beating his team, Portugal, in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Even after stepping into the game with his team trailing by one goal in the second half, the astonishingly renowned player who started the quarterfinals game on the bench couldn’t make a difference.
The Greatest of all time (GOAT) footballer had a challenging year. Earlier this year, his newborn son passed away. Then his controversies with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag went viral. And finally, at the year’s end, he became Portugal’s backup for their matches in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. 2022 was not in favor of Ronaldo at all.
Every other fan’s eye got filled with tears when they saw Cristiano leaving the field sobbing uncontrollably, and a video of him crying quickly went viral on social media.
After the heartbreaking loss, his early retirement and plans have become the talk of discussion among social media users. Cristiano Ronaldo himself hinted that he may give up playing for Portugal after the end of the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Taking to social media platforms, Ronaldo wrote that his dream of winning the World Cup for his country ended with this defeat.
Virat Kohli pays tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo
After witnessing Ronaldo’s heartbreaking post, one of his biggest fans, India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli aka King Kohli, poured his heart out in an emotional note to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Taking to Twitter, he wrote,
“No trophy or any title can take anything away from what you’ve done in this sport and for sports fans around the world. No title can explain the impact you’ve had on people and what I and so many around the world feel when we watch you play. That’s a gift from god.”
He added,
“A real blessing to a man who plays his heart out every single time and is the epitome of hard work and dedication and a true inspiration for any sportsperson. You are for me the greatest of all time.”

It is sad to know that Ronaldo didn’t even allow to start for his country in Portugal’s last two FIFA World Cup games, a Round of 16 encounters against Switzerland and a Quarterfinal match against Morocco.
Millions of Ronaldo supporters and his partner Georgina criticized Portugal coach Fernando Santos for benching the player twice in prominent matches at the FIFA World Cup 2022, even after being aware that Ronaldo is the top goal scorer in both international and national football, with the most international caps for Portugal.
The football star has now surrendered to “time,” trusting it to be a “good counselor,” hoping that it will decide his destiny and fate.
