Earlier this week, BJP national executive meeting was held, and PM Narendra Modi made some comments about the recent Pathan controversy. On the last day of the two-day meeting, the PM addressed the BJP leaders and asked them not to make unnecessary comments about films.
For quite a lot of time, we have seen rapidly increasing opposition to Bollywood movies with Boycott trends as well as legal notices against the filmmakers and actors for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
Recently Shah Rukh Khan’s most anticipated film Pathaan has faced similar backlash from political personalities as well as netizens. According to reports, several BJP leaders like Ram Kadam and Narottam Mishra have massively criticized the makers over Deepika Padukone’s saffron outfit in the song ‘Besharam Rang’.
Possibly reacting to the same issue PM Modi also asked BJP members to reach out to every section of society including the minorities such as Bohras, Pasmandas and Sikhs, and work for them without electoral considerations in the meeting that was held on Tuesday.
According to reports, PM also mentioned that all the good work by the party goes in vain and get wasted when political leaders speak on films and the media ends up only covering the controversies.
Apart from the saffron bikini, a few shots from the song has also been trolled and tagged as ‘vulgar’ by several politicians.
Protests and boycott campaigns have been going on for months against many Bollywood movies including Pathaan.
Last year Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha faced similar backlash.
Stating that the Hindu sentiments have been hurt, the filmmakers were also called out for an “overdose” of the sexuality in the song.
Pathaan featuring Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham is set to be a patriotic film about a spy and an assassin defending the country against a terrorist group. The film is set to release on January 25, 2023.
