College cultural festivals can sometimes spiral out of control, but when an assistant professor is at the center of controversy, it’s truly surprising. A recent incident at ABES College of Engineering in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on October 20th, during a student induction program, shook everyone when a student faced severe criticism from the assistant professor for a simple ‘Jai Shri Ram’ greeting.
This incident reportedly transpired at the ‘Navtarang 2023-24’ college cultural fest. The event was specifically designed to usher in the BTech first-year students at ABES College of Engineering in Ghaziabad.
The video of the incident went viral where a professor, named Mamata Gautam, yelled at the student.
The video vividly depicts numerous students offering a ‘Jai Shri Ram’ greeting to the person on stage, to which the student on the platform responded in kind. Following his ‘Jai Shri Ram’ salutation, the entire college erupted in cheers of ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ This sequence of events evidently did not sit well with Mamata Gautam, who promptly rose from her seat and instructed the student to vacate the stage.
Social media users quickly recognized the professor as Gautam, who was captured in the act of reprimanding the student. The professor’s voice can be heard raised in a heated reprimand,
“Why did you raise the slogan of Jai Shri Ram? Do you come to the college for this? This is a cultural program. This cannot be allowed. Out. Get Out”
In the meantime, the student on stage explained that he was simply being courteous and responding to the enthusiastic ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chants from the audience.

Ghaziabad Police assumed control of the situation following the video’s viral spread and initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident.

‘Jai Shri Ram’ is a peaceful Dharmic chant and should by no means be misconstrued as an inflammatory slogan.
