Due to the extreme heatwave affecting several states, online food delivery service Zomato has urged customers to refrain from placing orders during the peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary.
With temperatures soaring higher than usual, many states are experiencing unprecedented heat levels, leading to heatstroke cases and related fatalities in Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Delhi.
Zomato’s tweet said,
“Please avoid ordering during peak afternoon unless absolutely necessary.”

Here’s how netizens reacted:
And who order food that too from outside unnecessarily? 🤔
I guess nobody.
People order food only when they are in need, in emergency or when cannot cook
And one idea is that you can ask them to use this kind of roof it is of around 800 rs@deepigoyal

Why don’t instead suspend your services during peak afternoon?

Bro, you are in food services and people order food when it is absolutely necessary.
If you actually care about your employees, you would be posting “Our services are unavailable during peak afternoon hours”— The Grey Man (@sundayback13) June 2, 2024
Is it even real?
Though I appreciate the concern, lunchtime orders cannot be postponed to dinner time.
If so, Zomato needs to identify “absolutely necessary” orders and not-so-necessary orders.

Then I’m deleting your app, it is useless now.

Close down the services between 12 to 4. Its okay to be human sometimes before profits. Yeah we won’t order, but still closure from you will do more good.

Meanwhile, Zomato’s co-founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, has launched India’s first crowd-supported weather infrastructure, offering localized, real-time data on key weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall. Named weatherunion.com, this network consists of over 650 on-ground weather stations and is currently operational in 45 cities, with plans for expansion.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting to assess the heatwave situation and the preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. During the meeting, it was noted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts the heatwave will persist in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. PM Modi emphasized the need for regular fire prevention and management drills.
The company is also providing free access to this network’s data through an Application Programming Interface (API) to institutions and companies across the country.
