Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF officer who allegedly slapped newly-elected BJP MP Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport, claimed her actions were provoked by an old comment made by the actor regarding the farmers’ protest. Kaur, who comes from a farming family, stated, “She said farmers are sitting there for ₹ 100. Will she sit there? My mother was protesting when she made this statement.”
Following the incident, Kulwinder Kaur has been suspended and faces a police investigation. She admitted reacting to Ranaut’s “disrespect” towards farmers.
Kangana Ranaut, who won the Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh, was on her way to Delhi when the altercation occurred.
In her video, Ranaut said,
“The incident happened at the security check-in. The woman guard waited for me to pass, then hit me and started abusing me. When I asked why, she said, ‘I support farmers’. I am safe, but my concern is about the rising terrorism in Punjab. How do we handle that?”
Footage of the incident, which quickly went viral, showed Kangana Ranaut being escorted to a check-in counter, followed by a verbal confrontation. The video does not show Ranaut being slapped.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced an inquiry, stating, “Action will be taken against the accused. It is unfortunate that a security officer was involved. What happened was wrong.”
Kaur’s reaction was linked to a derogatory remark Ranaut made on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020, during a nationwide protest against three farm laws. Ranaut had posted about an elderly woman at the protests, suggesting she was “available for ₹ 100”. The tweet was deleted following public backlash.

Kangana Ranaut also made headlines in February 2021 after international pop star Rihanna criticized the BJP government over the farmers’ protest. Ranaut responded by calling the protesters “terrorists” aiming to divide India, accusing China of wanting to exploit the situation. This tweet was also deleted.
The farmers’ protest, which began in 2020/21, has continued to impact the political landscape, possibly influencing the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Ranaut has had several confrontations with the protesting farmers, including an incident where her convoy was blocked by protesters while she was campaigning in Chandigarh.
