A lady in the Malad neighbourhood of Mumbai apparently had her dread come true when her phone was stolen by a Swiggy delivery person.
The lady, who goes by the Twitter handle Aparna Vinayan, claims that delivery worker Jayram Yegde stole her phone from a shoe rack after delivering a package to another apartment complex.
She claimed on Twitter that the entire thing took place in her Ashok Enclave flat in Malad West at approximately 6:45 on the evening of February 14. She said in a now-deleted tweet,
“@SwiggyCares @Swiggy Last night around 6.45 pm a Swiggy delivery person named Jayram Yegde had come to Ashok Enclave apartment at Malad West, Mumbai for the delivery. While returning he stole my phone. Please see the CCTV Footage video captured.”
As time passes, people’s opinions on the occurrence become widely known. Even though some Twitter users sympathized with the lady, others called her “careless” for leaving her phone unattended.
Some customers said the delivery man was not stealing when he took their unattended gadget.
Nevertheless, after the tweet was sent, Mumbai Police responded by telling the lady to go to her local police station.
Mumbai Police wrote, “Report the matter at your local Police Station as soon as possible for necessary action.”

Swiggy’s official support account also quickly replied, asking for specifics on the problematic order. The status was then modified to reflect the woman’s ability to get help through private messages. Swiggy posted on Twitter, “This is concerning to hear, Anju. Please help us with the related order ID so that we can have this highlighted right away. ^Meenu”

Although this experience does not lead us to reject the hypothesis of accidental theft, it does emphasize the need of being alert and having valuables close at hand. In this day and age, losing a cell phone may be a huge hassle since they are so integral to our daily lives.
