Even after so many controversies and debates over this sensitive topic of women’s clothing, there are still some people in our society who just love to comment on women’s dressing sense and opinionate on what women should wear. Apart from normal people, some veteran celebrities have commented on the same topic. Jaya Bachchan made headlines a few days ago for her remarks about westernization and now Veteran actress Asha Parekh is the latest one to join her.
Recently, Veteran actress Asha Parekh attended the International Film Festival of India in Goa where she expressed her disappointment over the westernization of India.
The Diva said that Indian women are not wearing sarees, and Ghaghra choli but instead wearing gowns and dresses. Asha Parekh further said that the actors on screen also wore western dresses which makes the influenced audience to copy them.
As per reports, during IFFI, Asha Parekh said,
“Everything has changed. The films that are being made. I do not know, we are so westernized. Gowns pehen ke wedding pe aa rahi hain ladkiyan. Arre bhaiya, humari ghaghra choli, saariyan aur salwar-kameez hai aap wo pehno na. Why don’t you wear those?”
She further added,
“They just watch the heroines on the screen and wish to copy them. Screen pe dekh ke wo jo kapde pehen rahe us tarah ke kapde hum bhi pehnenge …mote ho, ya jo, hum wahi phenenge. Ye western ho raha hai mujhe dukh hota hai.”
Her statements have divided the whole internet as some people are in her favor while some people are criticizing her remarks.
Earlier, veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, during her granddaughter’s podcast What The Hell Navya, had a similar thought. She said,
“Why is it, I want to ask you both, that Indian women are wearing more western clothes?”
