Renowned ghazal vocalist Pankaj Udhas has passed away at the age of 72, according to a statement from his family. The official announcement reads,
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on February 26, 2024, after battling a prolonged illness.”

Sonu Nigam, expressing his grief on Instagram, wrote,
“Today, we have lost a significant part of my childhood. Pankaj Udhas ji, your absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. My heart mourns your departure. Thank you for always being there. Rest in peace.”
Hailing from Jetpur, Gujarat, Pankaj Udhas commenced his musical journey with the release of his ghazal album “Aahat” in 1980. He swiftly rose to prominence as a leading figure in the realm of ghazal music in India. In Bollywood, he is remembered for his soulful rendition of “Chitthi Aayee Hai” for the film “Naam,” starring Sanjay Dutt.
Throughout his career, Pankaj Udhas released numerous albums and enthralled audiences with his live performances. His immense contributions to music were recognized with the prestigious Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor.
