Veteran actor and politician, Jaya Bachchan has been nominated by the Samajwadi Party (SP) for her fifth consecutive term in the Rajya Sabha. She submitted her nomination papers on Tuesday. The 75-year-old, who has been a member of the SP since 2004, disclosed assets valued at Rs 1,578 crore along with her husband, Amitabh Bachchan.

As per Jaya Bachchan’s election affidavit, her personal net worth for the financial year 2022-23 is Rs 1,63,56,190. Amitabh Bachchan’s wealth for the same period is reported to be Rs 273,74,96,590.
Together, their movable property is worth Rs 849.11 crore, while their immovable property is valued at Rs 729.77 crore. Jaya Bachchan has a bank balance of Rs 10,11,33,172, and Amitabh Bachchan’s bank balance is Rs 120,45,62,083.
The Bachchans live luxuriously, with Jaya owning jewelry worth Rs 40.97 crore and a car valued at Rs 9.82 lakh. Amitabh Bachchan’s collection includes jewelry worth Rs 54.77 crore and 16 vehicles, including two Mercedes and a Range Rover, which together are worth Rs 17.66 crore.
The couple’s wealth comes from different sources. Jaya Bachchan earns through endorsements, her salary as a Member of Parliament, and professional fees, while Amitabh Bachchan’s income includes interest, rent, dividends, capital gains, and revenue from a solar plant.
The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for February 27, with 56 seats up for grabs across 15 states. In Uttar Pradesh, where the SP has announced its candidates, the party holds 108 seats in the 403-member Assembly. The ruling BJP has 252 members, and the Congress has two.
Besides Jaya Bachchan, the SP has also nominated former MP Ramjilal Suman and retired IAS officer Alok Ranjan for the Upper House polls.
