ying the character of ‘Alamzeb’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” Sharmin Segal has encountered unfavorable reviews regarding her performance. Criticism has mounted, with some questioning Bhansali’s decision to cast his niece in the series, sparking discussions around nepotism.
In light of this, Aditi Rao Hydari, in an interview, expressed solidarity with Sharmin amidst the harsh trolling directed at her for her role in the eight-episode series.
During a conversation with Puja Talwar, Aditi Rao Hydari conveyed her reaction to Sharmin Segal’s experience of facing disparaging comments for her portrayal in “Heeramandi.” She emphasized the unfairness of targeting someone without reason, expressing empathy for Sharmin and condemning the unkindness displayed towards her. Aditi advocated for a more considerate approach to criticism, urging people to support each other rather than resorting to negativity. She said,
“It’s horrible to pick on anybody. I know some people like something and some people don’t. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. It has gotten very mean and I think it’s not fair and it shouldn’t happen like that. I don’t know what else to say but I do feel bad. I think we should all understand it and be there for each other.”
Aditi also stressed the importance of easing difficulties for others and encouraged Sharmin to focus on the positives amidst the criticism. She acknowledged that while some individuals may choose to be critical, it’s essential for Sharmin to maintain a positive outlook.
“I also feel people do what they think is important to them. If some people want to be mean, that is their prerogative. Whoever is facing it, I would just say, ‘look at the positive’.”
