In a shocking turn of events, a passenger traveling from Rani Kamlapati to Jabalpur on the Vande Bharat Express on February 1 was upset when he discovered a dead cockroach in his meal. He lodged a formal complaint with the West Central Railway upon reaching Jabalpur station. Two days later, he posted about the incident on X. IRCTC replied to his tweet, expressing regret for the inconvenience.

Dr. Shubhendu Keshari, a passenger, shared photos of his non-vegetarian meal onboard the train. The images clearly displayed a cockroach in the meal. Dr. Keshari also posted a picture of the complaint form he filled out at Jabalpur station regarding the unhygienic food condition.
“I was travelling on 1/02/2024 train no. 20173 RKMP to JBP (Vande Bharat Exp). I was traumatised by seeing a dead cockroach in the food packet given by them,” wrote Dr Shubhendu Keshari while sharing a few pictures of his meal on X.

IRCTC quickly responded to the incident, offering an apology to the passenger for the unpleasant experience. IRCTC replied:
“Sir, our sincere apology for the experience you had. The matter is viewed seriously, and the hefty penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. Moreover, monitoring has been strengthened at the source,”

Such incidents are not uncommon on trains. In July 2023, another passenger shared a photo of a cockroach found in his roti served on the Vande Bharat Express from Bhopal to Gwalior.
