Ayodhya recently witnessed the successful completion of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony for Ram Lalla, marking a historic moment for millions of Indians who had dreamed of the construction of Lord Ram’s temple in his birthplace for over 500 years. While we celebrate this significant event, it’s essential to recognize the pivotal role played by the then-91-year-old senior lawyer, Keshav Parasaran, who represented Ram Lalla in the Supreme Court and contributed to this triumph.
Shri Keshav Parasaran, the legal mind behind Ram Lalla’s victory, is a distinguished senior Supreme Court lawyer and former Attorney General of India.
Born in Srigrangam, Tamil Nadu, in 1927, to a devout Hindu family, Parasaran hails from a lineage of legal and Vedic scholars. Notably, his father, Kesava Aiyenger, was both a Vedic scholar and a lawyer, and three of Parasaran’s sons are also lawyers.
Often referred to as the “Pitamah of the Indian bar” in legal circles, Keshav Parasaran earned this title for his unique approach of incorporating verses from Hindu scriptures to support his legal arguments. After a lengthy legal career, Parasaran, in his eighties, embraced a spiritual path.
In the landmark Ayodhya dispute case of 2019, Keshav Parasaran played a pivotal role in securing a favorable outcome for Lord Ram.
The historic verdict was delivered by a five-judge bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, SA Bobde, CJI Ranjan Gogoi, DY Chandrachud, and S Abdul Nazeer. Parasaran’s deep devotion to Lord Ram was evident as he entered the court barefoot and refused to sit down, underscoring his commitment to the case.
Challenging the opposing claims, Parasaran argued that Ayodhya had ample mosques for Muslims, emphasizing the principle of ‘Once a temple, always a temple.’
In media interactions, he expressed that his impassioned arguments were fueled by his profound love for Lord Ram.
Recognized for his contributions, K Parasaran was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2003 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2011. As Ayodhya witnesses the grandeur of Ram Lalla’s presence, Parasaran’s legacy becomes an integral part of history, reshaping the narrative of Hinduism from mythology to a significant historical entity.
