Actor and National Award winner Manoj Bajpayee, known for his roles in films like “Gangs of Wasseypur,” “Satya,” “Aligarh,” and “The Family Man,” has said that he was always interested in dancing and had considered showing off his talents as a dancer on the screen until he saw Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan’s dance.
The actor recently made an appearance on the discussion program The Bombay Adventure X Sunday Brunch, and he and Sharmila Tagore may soon be seen together in the forthcoming streaming film Gulmohar.
Talking about his affinity for singing Manoj Bajpayee said, “Since I’m from theatre, there used to be a prerequisite that an artiste should know how to sing. Main naachta bhi tha (I used to dance as well).”
Manoj Bajpayee revealed that he is a trained Chhau dancer. He said:
“Main Chhau dance mein trained hoon par fir jab maine Hrithik ko dekha toh maine socha aaj se dancing ka khwaab band (I’m trained in Chhau dance but when I saw Hrithik performing, my dreams of dancing were shattered). I was like ‘Ab ye nahi seekh sakta main’ (I can’t learn this now).”
Sharmila Tagore makes her big screen comeback after more than a decade in Gulmohar, which also features actor Suraj Sharma. You can watch it on Disney+ Hotstar beginning March 3.
