Films turned down by Ayushmann Khurrana
Stree
It is a well-known fact that Ayushmann Khurrana has many blockbusters to his credit, but the youth icon in a previous interview opened up about turning down the opportunity of being a part of filmmaker Amar Kaushik’s Stree, according to Republic TV.
Ayushmann regretted his decision later, and the role was then offered to Rajkummar Rao, who said yes to the script and was featured with Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana among others to deliver one of the most entertaining films of 2018. The horror comedy went on to earn Rs 180 crore+ at the box office.
Hungama 2
We bet you didn’t know that ‘Badhai Ho’ fame had the option of teaming up with Shilpa Shetty on the silver screen. Yes, AK was offered a role in filmmaker Priyadarshan’s 2021 movie Hungama 2 but he turned down the offer, and the reasons are yet to be known.
Confirming the news, Priyadarshan revealed to Meezaan Jafri that the film’s concept was narrative to a couple of actors like Ayushmann Khurrana, Sidharth Malhotra, and Kartik Aaryan but they all turned it down. Shilpa Shetty returned to the big screen after a long break of 14 years with Hungama 2, the 2021 comedy-drama also featured Paresh Rawal and Pranitha Subhash in prominent roles.
Lust Stories
Another project rejected by Ayushmann was Netflix’s anthology drama Lust Stories. Vicky Kaushal played the lead role in filmmaker Karan Johar’s story. According to reports, the role was initially offered to Ayushmann, who turned it down.
Talking about Lust Stories, Karan Johar recently revealed that Kriti Sanon was the first choice to play the role of Megha, but she had to turn down the offer as her mother didn’t want her to play such a character. Later on, Karan roped in Kiara Advani for the Emmy-nominated movie.
These weren’t the only films rejected by Khurrana. The actor in the latest interview recalled turning down a producer, who offered him a blank cheque for a three-film deal. He said,
“I remember there was one producer who once gave me a blank cheque and said ‘Jitna chahe le lo, teen picture Karlo humare saath. Story, script wagera likhte rahenge’. I said, ‘Mere liye Laxmi se pehle Saraswati aati hai,”
