In a recent discussion on his YouTube channel about the upcoming T20I World Cup scheduled in the United States, Harbhajan Singh shared his insights. The cricket legend expressed his belief that the upcoming ICC tournament would mark a significant chapter in the career of India’s star batter, Virat Kohli. Dismissing reports suggesting doubts about Kohli’s participation in the 2024 T20I World Cup, Harbhajan said,
“A player of Virat Kohli’s caliber not winning a World Cup? I can’t accept that.” He emphasized Kohli’s focus on clinching the trophy, stating, “With the IPL approaching and the World Cup following, Virat Kohli’s bat will echo as loudly as ever, if not louder. Undoubtedly, Virat has his sights set on that World Cup trophy.”
Virat Kohli recently withdrew from India’s five-match Test series against England due to the birth of his son on February 15. Currently, his attention is on the upcoming IPL season, followed by his anticipated participation in the T20I World Cup in June.
Reflecting on Harbhajan Singh’s illustrious career, the Indian bowler is celebrated as one of the greatest spinners in cricket history. In an era dominated by wrist spinners, Harbhajan Singh maintained the legacy of finger spin bowling. His notable performances date back to March 2001 when he outshone the formidable Australian team, claiming 32 wickets in three Tests and securing India’s first-ever hat trick in the format. He also represented India in the inaugural T20I World Cup, showcasing his adaptability to the shorter format, and played a pivotal role in India’s 2002 Champions Trophy victory.
In addition to his prestigious ICC trophies, Harbhajan Singh boasts impressive statistics on the cricket field. With 103 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 28 T20I matches under his belt, he has accumulated 711 wickets while also contributing with the bat, scoring 3569 runs.
