Indeed, Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan tied the knot on June 6, 2014, and the following year, they welcomed their daughter. However, their marriage took a tumultuous turn as accusations of domestic violence, infidelity, marital rape, and match-fixing surfaced. The situation escalated to the point where Jahan vowed to present evidence of her claims to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The contentious divorce proceedings also resulted in Jahan gaining custody of their only child. The personal struggles between Shami and Jahan have played out in the public eye, adding a layer of complexity beyond the cricketing realm.
On March 8, 2018, Hasin Jahan filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband, Mohammed Shami. Since that time, the couple has been living apart, marking a significant and publicized chapter in their tumultuous relationship. The legal proceedings and public statements surrounding their separation have continued to draw attention from both the media and the cricket community.
Earlier this year, a Kolkata court mandated Mohammed Shami to provide a monthly alimony of Rs 1,30,000 to his estranged wife as part of a domestic violence case. Shami, in response, refuted all the charges and described his wife as having turned ‘evil.’ He also expressed,
“I can die for my country but never betray”
During an interview with NewsNation, Hasin Jahan was asked to share her thoughts on Shami and Team India’s performance in the ongoing World Cup.
Jahan began by expressing that she isn’t a follower of cricket or cricketers. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that if Shami performs admirably for the country, it would translate into financial stability, allowing him to support her and their daughter Aaira.
“Kuch bhi hai, accha perform kr rha hai, accha khelega, team main bana rahega, achha kamayega toh humara bhavishya secure rahega. (Whatever it is, if he [Shami] is performing well, will stay in Indian team and earn well, it will secure our future).”
Jahan exhibited no inclination to extend good wishes for Shami’s upcoming matches. During the interview, she made it clear that her focus was elsewhere.
“I will give my best wishes to Team India but not him”
