In Bollywood, one film has been creating waves like no other – Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. The star-studded cast featuring Boman Irani, Vikram Kocchar, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and the iconic Shah Rukh Khan has taken the audience on an extraordinary journey. Released on December 21, 2023, Dunki has not only captivated hearts but also triumphed at the global box office, surpassing an impressive Rs. 360 crores in sales.
The film’s soundtrack, a masterpiece in itself, has contributed significantly to its success. Led by the soul-stirring lyrics of the legendary Javed Akhtar, Nikle The Hum Kabhi Ghar Se has garnered praise for its profound soulfulness. The music, resonating with the plot, has left an indelible mark on both critics and avid moviegoers.
Film information sheds light on the meticulous negotiations that took place between Rajkumar Hirani and Javed Akhtar before the creation of this musical gem. Javed Akhtar, a prolific lyricist, had three specific requests before he agreed to lend his talents to Dunki.
Javed Akhtar insisted on having his name displayed on screen for the same duration as the director’s, a proof of the importance of his contribution to the film. The renowned lyricist requested acknowledgement independent of other contributors, underlining the uniqueness of his lyrical prowess in Dunki. Javed Akhtar asked for a substantial payment of Rs. 25 lakhs for crafting the tune of a single song. Reports suggest that this compensation stands among the highest ever given to a lyricist for a single track.
Javed Akhtar, known for his humility, shared his experience, stating, “I usually don’t write just one track in the film. Raju Hirani Saab asked me to write lyrics for just one song. I declined, but he insisted. He said, ‘Yeh gaana aapke alawa koi nahin likh sakta’ (No one else can write this song but you).”
He further expressed his admiration for Rajkumar Hirani’s understanding of the industry, stating, “His love for his film was governing him. Hats off to him!”
However, fans are not happy with the amount that he is getting.
