Renowned Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh recently gave a fitting reply to the trolls who mocked him for allegedly disrespecting the Indian flag.
A few days ago, the singer achieved a milestone by being the first Punjabi singer to perform at the Coachella Music Festival. Diljit performed at the fest twice; however, his second performance made the headlines and sadly for the wrong reasons. During his second gig, Diljit said,
“Eh mere Punjabi bhain bhraawan layi, mere desh da jhanda laike khadi aa kudi, eh mere desh layi, negativity ton bacho, music saareyan da saanjha (This girl has my country’s flag and it’s for my country and everyone. Music belongs to everyone, don’t use it to spread hate towards others).
However, his statements were misunderstood and people slammed him for disrespecting the tricolour.
The media reported that the singer accused a girl of inciting hatred towards others by waving the tricolor at a music festival in America. Trolls questioned him he has no respect for the flag of the country in which he lives in.
Now, Diljit has clarified his statements at the music festival. He tweeted,
“DON’T SPREAD FAKE NEWS & NEGATIVITY ❌ Mai Kiha Eh Mere Desh Da Jhanda Hai Eh Mere Desh Lai.. Means MERI Eh Performance Mere desh Lai… Je Punjabi Nhi Aundi Tan Google Kar leya Karo Yaar… Kion ke Coachella Ek Big Musical Festival Aa Othey Har desh to log aunde ne.. that’s why Music Sab Da Sanjha Hai…SAHI GAL NU PUTHI KIVE GHUMAUNA KOI TUADEY WARGEYA TON SIKHEY 👏🏽 ENU V GOOGLE KAR LEYO…”
You are not Punjabi alone, I am also Indian Punjabi who is very proud of his country 🇮🇳. I have pointed out that you have said something very distasteful during live show.
