It is a popular saying that what’s in a name. What’s in the name? well, when it comes to movies, especially Bollywood movies, everything is the name of the movie. The title or name is the most important part of the movie as it gives a brief description of the plot and characters of the movie giving an idea of the storyline.
There are times when the original name of the movie is altered due to some reason or other.
Let’s have a look at all those Bollywood movies that altered their original titles.
R… Rajkumar – Rambo Rajkumar
The first “R” in the initial name is Rambo. The reason why they removed the word Rambo is that they didn’t receive permission from the Hollywood makers who made the original Rambo.
Tamasha – Window Seat
To be honest, the word Window Seat would’ve been much less attractive, and it is not even suitable for the storyline of the movie. So changing the title to Tamasha indeed was a good call.
Bullet Raja – Jai Ram Ji Ki
As we all know that the movie is based on UP, the title, Jai Ram Ji Ki seemed more suitable. But due to political issues, it had to be changed to Bullet Raja.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan – Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye
It was Yash Chopra’s dream to make a movie with ‘Ye Kahan Aa Gaye” and also with Shah Rukh Khan. But unfortunately, that couldn’t happen, the creators then took the name Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which was taken from the poem Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara – Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2
Not much of a difference but because of the sequel of the same, the creators decided to change it to Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara.
Madras Café – Jaffna
The movie was based on Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination. Jaffna is a Sri Lankan city, and this name was opposed by the Sri Lankan government so Madras Café was finalized.
Jai Ho – Mental
The first name was more suitable as it gave a negative view to the audience. But as the movie was released on Republic Day, the Makers decided to name it Jai Ho.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Running With the Bulls
One of the greatest creations of the Bollywood industry. This Masterpiece is one of the best Bollywood movies of all time that taught us a lot of life lessons. Running Bulls is not even suitable. It was taken from the lyrics of Rock On, but Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is appropriate.
Hamari Adhuri Kahani – Tum Hi Ho
Tum Hi Ho is one of the most popular songs in the Bollywood industry, the makers skipped the idea and then decided to make the title more descriptive and different, so they finalized Hamari Adhuri Kahani.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela – Ram Leela
The High Court of Madhya Pradesh gave an order to change the movie title because it would hurt the sentiments of some people. Also, the new title gave an idea about the storyline.
Love Aaj Kal – Elastic
A movie name like Elastic would be funny but not suitable for Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal, as a result, the creators decided to alter the title to Love Aaj Kal which makes more sense.
Jab We Met – Punjab Express, and Ishq Via Bhatinda
A lot of weird names were suggested for this blockbuster Bollywood movie like Ishq Via Bhatinda and Punjab Express but later the creators finalized Jab We Met and indeed it was a brilliant decision.
