Bobby Deol shared insights into his family’s response to his portrayal of the antagonist in the recent blockbuster, Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featuring Ranbir Kapoor.
Despite his father, Dharmendra, and elder brother, Sunny Deol, not having seen the film, Bobby disclosed his mother’s conflicted emotions toward the hyper-violent narrative.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bobby recounted that his mother, Prakash Kaur, found it challenging to witness his character’s demise in the movie and expressed,
“Aisi film mat kiya kar tu, mujhse nahi dekha jaata (You shouldn’t do films like this, I can’t watch them).”
Bobby reassured her, stating,
“Look, I’m standing in front of you, I just played a part,”
but acknowledged her discomfort.
In another interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bobby discussed his family’s overall reaction to the film. While his father and brother hadn’t viewed it, Bobby noted the positive response from others.
“My dad and my brother haven’t seen it, but everybody else has. They’re feeling exactly like the audience is reacting to me. They’re naturally biased, but they’ve always believed in me as an actor and they were waiting for the right film to come my way,”
“My kids and my wife, I can only see happiness in their eyes. This is the first time I’ve noticed how I affect them as a father. With them, if I was happy I’d be happy, if I was sad I’d be sad, if I was angry I’d be angry… They think I’ve always deserved it, and they’ve seen my failures, and now they’re seeing my success.”
He emphasized the support from his wife and sons, highlighting the joy in their eyes. Reflecting on their unwavering belief in him as an actor, Bobby expressed gratitude for their shared happiness in his success and acknowledgment of his journey, encompassing both failures and triumphs.
The Deol family is experiencing a noteworthy year, with Dharmendra and Sunny achieving acclaim for their roles in Rocky Aur Rani and Gadar 2, respectively. Bobby, too, is basking in the accolades for his role in Animal, as the film is poised to surpass the Rs 300 crore milestone in India and has already exceeded the Rs 450 crore global gross.
