In the wake of the release of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, Bobby Deol has garnered significant attention for his portrayal of the mute villain, Abrar. Despite facing criticism for the inclusion of a marital rape scene in the film, the actor shared his enthusiasm for taking on the role of Abrar and emphasized the creative opportunities it presented.
Expressing his perspective, Deol explained how portraying a mute character allowed him to tap into different aspects of his performance, relying on non-verbal communication to convey the intensity of the character. He noted that being mute provided a unique energy that enhanced his portrayal, enabling him to focus on other senses while acting.
Regarding the controversial scene, which depicts Abrar seeking revenge on Ranbir Kapoor’s character by violating his three wives after killing Abrar’s brother, The actor clarified that he approached the role with a commitment to depicting the savage and evil nature of his character.
Bobby Deol emphasized that Abrar’s treatment of his wives in the film was a reflection of the character’s cruelty and not a portrayal of Deol’s personal views.
In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Mansi Taxak, the actress portraying Bobby Deol’s third wife in Animal, offered her perspective on the controversial scene. Taxak stated that she did not view the marital rape scene as a form of assault, explaining that her character was in love with Abrar. According to Taxak, Abrar’s actions were driven by the emotional turmoil resulting from his brother’s death, and he vented his anger on his wives in the film.
Despite the criticism surrounding the specific scene, Bobby Deol maintained that his portrayal aimed to capture the essence of a savage character seeking vengeance, while also highlighting that Abrar, in his own twisted way, was portrayed as a romantic figure with his three wives.
