In a recent episode of ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’, contestant Chandrika Dixit, also known as the Vada Pav Girl, shared a heartfelt account of her challenging childhood. After her mother’s passing when Chandrika was just six months old, her father succumbed to alcoholism and eventually abandoned her.
“I never saw their faces (her parents). I was six months old when my mother passed away.”
Chandrika, who gained fame for selling vada pavs on the streets of Delhi, revealed that she never saw her parents’ faces and was mistreated by relatives following her mother’s death.
She recounted that her father, driven by his addiction, left her with various relatives and remarried multiple times. She shared that she never formed a bond with her father due to his absence and frequent marriages.
“After my mom passed away, mere papa ko daaru ki latt lag gayi aur mujhe kabhi ye rishtedaar kabhi woh rishtedaar ke paas chhod dete the. Wo phir shaadi pe shaadi karte rahe. Mere papa ke saath kabhi nahi bana.”
During a conversation with fellow contestants Ranvir Shorey and Munisha Khatwani, Chandrika disclosed that her father married four to five times before her grandmother adopted her when she was around 8 or 9 years old. Her grandmother took her in after realizing the poor treatment and lack of proper meals Chandrika received from relatives. Chandrika emotionally recounted being given the last roti left in the kitchen.
“4-5 honge. Jab zarurat thi mujhe tab nahi tha. When I was 8-9-yrs-old my naani adopted me in a proper way. She learnt that I was being shuffled around relatives. She got to learn how I was being treated there, then she adopted me. At my relatives’ place, I would be given the last roti left in the kitchen.”
Chandrika also shared details about her current life and success. She revealed that she earns Rs. 40,000 per day by selling vada pav on the streets of Delhi and addressed the struggles she faced along the way. Despite the challenges, she has become an internet sensation with a massive fan following.
