When Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Selfiee, bombed at the box office, legendary Indian television producer Ekta Kapoor came to his defense.
Selfiee, starring Emraan Hashmi, is a translation of Driving Licence, a 2019 film in Malayalam. It was Akshay’s sixth consecutive disappointment after “Bachchhan Paandey,” “Samrat Prithviraj,” “Raksha Bandhan,” “Cuttputlli,” and “Ram Setu,” and it opened to a dismal Rs 2.5 crore.
Taking to the story section of her Instagram, Ekta Kapoor pointed the guns at the “tabloid culture”.
She wrote: “Akshay Kumar is the most reliable, dependable actor to work with!!! Depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows is a hugeeeeee low in itself!!!” She also added with the hashtag “insensitive”.
After Kangana Ranaut’s criticism of Selfiee, Ekta Kapoor responded with a post. An article on the success of the film Selfiee had likened Kangana to Akshay Kumar, and the actress had responded. In an oblique comparison, Kangana has commented on the first-day earnings of Selfiee and her last film, Dhaakad (2022).
Kangana had written:
“Karan Johar movie Selfie has hardly made 10 lakh on the first day I don’t see even one trade or media person talk about it forget mocking or bullying him the way they harass me.”
Meanwhile Karan Johar ki film ne 10 lakh bhi nahi kamaye, lekin media wale na uska naam use kar rahe hain na uske production ka naam, jiss film se mera koi lena dena nahi uska flop hone ka reason bhi mujhe bataya ja raha hai
Wah bhai Karan Johar wah !! 😂 https://t.co/e4wcBaydBC— Kangana Ranaut (@KanganaTeam) February 24, 2023
